Rebecca de Pelet

Hi, im Rebecca.

I am a writer, curator and educator who is passionate about the power of words. Words can bring relief, even healing; they can develop and empower; can lead to making a living, to making a life. I provide opportunities to write creatively for young people and adults; programme events and festivals which encourage writing and take the fear out of engaging with literary works for people of all ages.

After an MA in English Literature from Edinburgh University and a short career in journalism, I spent 25 years working as a teacher of English in the State and Independent sectors, both as an Academic Leader and Head of Department.

I am the co-founder and curator of Bankfest, a brand new festival of writing for young people in Dorset produced for the charity The Bank of Dreams and Nightmares. In 2019, I curated the hugely successful TEDx Sherborne, and prior to that I founded and ran a festival of good writing for Sherborne’s three secondary schools for over five years. I am a trustee of the Arts organisation b-side on the Isle of Portland and was recently nominated for the Lifetime Achievement Award in the ‘Tatler Schools Awards’ for 2024.

Having recently completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Teaching Creative Writing at Cambridge University, I now work as a writer, educator and curator, helping people and organisations bring much-needed change to lives and communities through the power of words and good writing.
